My research primarily focuses on understanding how structural materials deteriorate and the impact of microstructure caused by neutron irradiation or other extreme environments. This is achieved by investigating the fundamental processes of damage accumulation in advanced materials using electron microscopy. This approach also incorporates the use of 3D microstructural based techniques, such as computed X-ray tomography or FIB-SEM tomography.
Some of the materials that I frequently characterize are: graphite, porous transport layers, and SiC-SiC composites.
Research Interest:
- Characterization of ceramics, graphite, composites, concrete, and other advanced materials for high-temperature and extreme environment applications
- Neutron irradiation effects on nuclear applications
- 3D characterization techniques
- Image-based modeling
- Porous transport layer characterization
