Administrative Assistant, Material Science and Technology Division

Goldie Harrill is the Administrative Assistant to the Materials Science and Technology Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). Previously, she served as the Administrative Assistant to the Chief Operating Officer of the Physical Sciences Directorate (PSD). With over 23 years of experience as an administrative professional, Goldie has honed a robust skill set, particularly in the medical field. She spent nearly two years supporting the COO, the Program and Planning Specialist, and the Communications Coordinator for PSD before transitioning to the Materials Science and Technology Division to further expand her knowledge and expertise within the lab.

Goldie began her career at ORNL in 2021, where she played a vital role in the COVID Unit, preparing forms for testing and vaccine administration, as well as reporting vaccination data to the state of Tennessee. In March of 2022, she moved to PSD in a dedicated administrative capacity and took on additional responsibilities as the Directorate Learning Coordinator, and collaborated with divisional staff to enhance the telecommunication division.

She holds a diploma in Medical Business Systems Technology from Tennessee College of Applied Technology, where she served as Vice President of the Honor Society. In 2023, Goldie furthered her professional development by earning the Professional Administrative Certificate of Excellence (PACE) certification.

Beyond her professional achievements, Goldie is deeply passionate about humanitarian work. Since 2010, she has traveled to Africa annually, providing medical supplies and raising funds for essential medical care and food for the village of Kirya. Her efforts have also contributed to community development projects, including funding well-digging initiatives and supporting micro-businesses in corn milling and soap-making as well as purchasing a block making to assist in building homes, churches and businesses.

Goldie’s commitment to helping those in need, combined with her extensive administrative experience, makes her a valuable asset to both her professional team at ORNL and the global community she serves.
